Today as I was sitting at a red light I looked in my rear view mirror and I saw a long one inch grey hair popping out of my eybrow. What on earth??? OMG! Is this the beginning? Are grey hairs going to start popping out all over my body? What’s next? I am frightened to think about it. And while I am thrilled to be alive, I am very vain, and growing older just sucks! I hate that I cannot wear mini skirts. I hate that when I get ‘all hottied up’ younger guys look at me and think I am a pathetic cougar trying to look 18. I hate that I have to watch what I eat and then work out three times harder than I did ten years ago. It pisses me off that I cannot eat a bowl full of chips and dip. And it really drives me crazy knowing that I am 5 years to 50! I am not going down without living it up. The way I see it, hey, I have it pretty good. And why shouldn’t I enjoy it. So, I will never be the hottest ass at the party again. But to my husband I have a pretty hot ass. Instead of thinking the best years of of my life are over, I am looking forward to what’s next. And I thank GOD that I am still here, greys, cellulite, and all.

So did you see this movie? In ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It,’ Jessica Parker plays a super mom doing it all. She has a high powered career in finance, two babies, a nice Boston home, and a cutie pie hubby. I thought it was a cute movie. But I became very irritated at the moron director and ignorant writer who portrayed the stay at home moms in the movie as complete airheads. One SAHM was at the gym working out and she said she gets there every day at 7:45 and leaves at around 2pm. Really? Do any of you know any SAHMs who have the time for that? In the movie Sarah’s character has to travel a lot. She leaves her children. Her daughter resents it. Her baby is just two-years-old. And yet, she is sleeping in NY, going out to dinner with her boss, and while they show her feeling a little guilty, they are sure to point out how much she loves her career. In the end she finds a way to not work on the weekends and tell her boss no to going on last minute trips. Hooray for her! It is so much more important I think to give the best years of your baby’s life to your boss. Parker does say in the end, “There will always be another big deal but not another first haircut.” And she is right about that.

Okay so for the past few years more and more people are realizing they have Celiacs and are going gluten free. Many mothers of autistic children are also going gluten free. Basically gluten is a glue additive that holds food together that is added to the food products you buy. This gluten free Celiacs thing pisses me off. I have read everything there is to read on it. And while I believe many people do become very sick from gluten, this is another man made disease that we have created. No one in 1900 had Celiacs. Let me tell you why. Back then our farmers grew our corn and wheat in nutrient rich fields and the children ate fresh breads their mothers baked from scratch from the flower made from those fields. Skip to 2000 when our farmers began genetically altering the seeds. Skip to an America where the farms have been over used and there are no nutrients left in the ground. Skip to a government that allows these boxed foods to include glue, and other ingredients our bodies cannot digest or tolerate simply so they can sit on the shelf for 8 months. Skip to a diet consisting of mostly boxed foods and sugar. Skip to a generation of immunity that is nutritionaly depleted. And what do you have, fibromyalgia, celiacs, and a host of other immunity insufficient people. Look at the rise in autism alone. But back to gluten. So many people once diagnosed simply buy gluten free cookies and chicken nuggets. And they are still sick. The idea is that these people need fresh fruit such as apples and berries, cruciferous vegitables such as broccoli and spinach, and homemade, old fashioned cooked dinners. People also think they need to switch to all organic. Organic is great. But it is not the total answer either. You can eat organic chips and organic cookies too. The idea is to get off of anything that is boxed. Do not eat it. To clean your body to cleanse your system you need to go raw and fresh. Today because of all the genetically altered beans and grains, our bodies cannot tolerate and digest them and they cause havoc and cancer. So some items I do encourage you buy organic such as flour, cereal, nuts, beans, breads, meat and dairy. There is no nutritional value in commercial milk. It has been boiled, pasturized, and now zapped with radiation before you even drink a glass. Then they fortify it. Drink water. If you can try to buy raw milk from your local farm or non pasturized organic milk. As for the meat, the commercial meat is currently being zapped with radiation before you can eat it. These assaults on our bodies over and over, attack our immunity and make us weak. So if you can, buy local fresh meat from a local farmer. Or buy organic meat. But cut down on the meat. As for the veggies, try to buy local over even organic. Find your local farms and go to them. Eat fresh spinach, and fresh green lettuce every day. Eat an apple every day. And if you have had antibiotics in your life take probiotics. You must get the healthy flora back into your intestines or your body will be toxic and you will not get better. Once your intestinal tract is good, and you are eating raw and fresh, and you cut out the boxed and fake, your body will recover and you will not have celiacs.

I love Paula Deen but just like Elvis, her favorite man, your ways are gonna catch up with you. You just can’t eat a stick of butter every day and deep fry all your food. Diabetes 2 is caused eating badly. There are thousands of studies that prove diabetes 2 is brought on from high intake of trans fats. On the good side, you can completely cure yourself from diabetes 2 through changing your diet. After a lifetime of deep fried fatty foods it will take some time for Paula or anyone to clean out their body from this abuse, but her way is the way of so many. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a chicken fried steak topped off with key lime pie. But these treats should be saved for a blue moon. Stuffing our faces for pleasure just has to stop. Never mind the fact that one third of Americans are OBESE, the bigger problem is really, do you want to drop dead for cheesecake? I just don’t see how it’s worth it. A new study shows that by 2030 over 500 million Americans will have diabetes. It is going to take over as the number one cause of death in America. We just have to change the way we think.

For all of you out there who are my fans I am sorry but I am no longer a happy housewife. My teen and tween have drained me from any happiness in my life. I live in denial. Imagining that I have this Hallmark family. I plan vacations hoping we will bond and have fun. I cook nutritious homemade dinners thinking they will appreciate it. I make their beds and pick up their dirty clothes. I wipe the pee off the bowl and the toothpaste off the counter. What more can I do? My husband makes fun of me because I actually pour the milk into my son’s cereal bowl. My children have iphones. I have an old blackberry. My on has a MAC while I have a 5 year old laptop. My daughter screams there is no food while she has no idea what that statement really means. I am a slave to these kids. It is a big secret how these teens drive you crazy. I have been at parties lately telling my war stories of throwing my daughters clothes out the window and smashing my son’s ipad only to be cheered on my other disgusted and in denial parents. One mom thanked me for admitting my son is a nasty beast most of the time. No one tells you how hard these years are going to be. One woman told my husband that she walked into the kitchen one day and saw the devil. It took 5 years for her son to come back. And now they have a great relationship. Who are these happy families? Are there really teens out there who aren’t telling their parents to drop dead? Are there mothers out there who have great shopping days with their daughters? I end up in a fight with my daughter every time we go to the mall. So don’t listen to any advice from me. I am doing something wrong.

A new year, a new you. Every year I bring up the same idea, what can each of us do to reinvent ourselves. How can we make our families stronger. How can we make our homes more beautiful. How can we make our marriages hotter. Each new year brings new opportunities. Forget the old, bring on the new. How about reaching a little bit higher. How about coming out of our comfort zones. There is always pressure on us, the moms, to be the super-women. Getting it all done every day is tough. But we do it. We find a way. And how can we do it all better? That is always my goal. Every year I try to do everything a little bit bigger. I asked in my last blog, what can we all do to help the world? And I ask you all in this blog to make a new year’s resolution to do something big. What have you always wanted to do? Besides being a mom, a wife, there is a dream burning inside you and now is the time, this is the year. Whether it’s getting fit, taking a course, learning to paint, cooking more glamorous meals, running a marathon or re-igniting your sex life, 2012 is your year.

As we approach the new year, I pray for America, I pray for the world, and I pray for you. We all affect each other’s lives. Our actions have meaning. There should be no I, only we. America is suffering. People are out of work. Children are hungry. And while we all give to Toys for Tots and donate Turkeys to the church, we need hope for the future. Hope for our children. And I hope we can all come together and remember that we are one, under GOD. How would GOD feel about the opulance, the gluttony, and the greed so many of us have bestowed upon on ourselves. Is this the way we want to be? Think of America in olden times. How life was different. Even over the past thirty years since I was a child, so much has changed. How can we bring back simpler times? How do we grow kinder as people? How do we bring back the value of hard work, good love, respect, honor, dignity, and graciousness? For my New Year’s resolution, I am going to do everything I can do to make this world a better place.

From my home to yours, Merry Christmas! I wish you health and happiness in the New Year!

God Bless your family.

In the spirit of the holidays I love how warm and lovely everyone is to each other. Yesterday a man gave me the finger on the road. A little old 60 something year old man in a volvo wagon flipped me the bird when I tried to go around him (I thought he was turning left) but he changed his mind, sped up, cut me off, and flipped me the bird. Merry Christmas! On line last week at the grocery store, a woman in front of me did not have enough money to pay her bill. She was searching through her purse for change and I said, ‘here, take this,’ it was a dollar, and she looked at me, made a face, and then told the check out girl to remove a box of cookies. She never looked at me again. Merry Christmas! I notice that I have so far a quarter of the cards I had last year. Many of my girlfriends now say they are not sending cards. Can’t be bothered. No time. Merry Christmas! And I just had an argument with Hannah’s school principal who refuses to allow one holiday song, not even a non ‘Christmas’ song like Winter Wonderland in the ‘winter concert’ this Wednesday. Merry Christmas! And lastly to the happy, cheerful people everywhere, I hope you remember that just a small gesture, this week, can go a long way to lift spirits this season. Smile, sing, be courteous, be kind, give and be gracious. Merry Christmas!

I love Christmas. I love decorating my house. I love cooking. I love giving people gifts I know they will enjoy. The deeper spirit of Christmas, I am concerned, is not being engrained into my children’s hearts. I know they enjoy giving presents. I know they appreciate the birthday of Jesus. But, maybe because they have everything, I have spoiled their Christmas. When I was young we had to wait for our birthdays or Christmas for a special item we wanted. When I was younger neighbors caroled on your porch. I can remember Santa everywhere, not just the mall. And I remember the sweeter things in life like baking with great aunts and drinking hot cocoa as the town tree was lit. Am I remembering my childhood through rosier colored glasses or was the hometown Christmas more to cherish back in the day? My children have not watched the Walton’s Christmas. They have not read the Gift of Magi. Maybe it is some of the old fashioned Christmas shows that are needed in my house. To my children those shows are corny. I cannot even get them to watch Rudolph without them saying how bad the animation is. I have created little elfs from hell, helfs. In an effort to turn this all around this weekend they have to help me bake old fashioned Christmas cookies. They are going to wrap presents. They are going shopping with me for the children at the homeless shelter. And we are going to watch the Little House on the Prairie Christmas movie. In today’s fast pace world, I know we can use some good old fashioned family time. Especially around Christmas!

And this morning one of the moms from Teen Mom, Farrah Abraham, took on Kourtney Kardashian for becoming pregnant again. Teen mom tweeted ‘you should have learned from Teen Mom.’ But Kourtney tweeted back, ‘hey, I’m 32.’ Kourtney is a woman. She is correct about that. She is wealthy. She could support another child. Even four more. Kourtney has a family full of love and support for a new baby. Kourtney is also starting a new mom blog. And that is great. Her baby Daddy, Scott Dicko, or something like that, tweeted back some nasty things to the Teen Mom, calling her some vile names. This was not nice. Maybe Farrah has no right comparing Kourtney to her because Kourtney is not a teen. But Kourtney is not married either. Her show is a big hit with the younger women in America. And the message she is sending them is that they do not need a man. Go ahead, have your new type of family. You don’t have to be married. You have your own money, just keep a Dicko around to make some babies. In the most recent episode Kourtney is stating that she isn’t even sure she wants to stay with Scott. Their relationship has been rocky. But who hasn’t had their rocky road to the alter? We all suffer some bumps. And for the most part, I like Kourtney. She is a holistic, organic mom like me. And she seems like a great mommy. And she can afford to take care of her children. But really, is this the dream we all strive for? Not me. I am living my dream. The question is, do you wait for your dream to come true or do you make yours happen? Kim’s marriage to Chris has ended. What if she doesn’t find the right man. Should she start a family on her own also? Was Kate Plus Eight the beginning of the next show idea, Moms on their Own.Hey, this idea is nothing new. Women have become pregnant out of wedlock since the beginning of time. Mary? And years ago pregnant women would rush to the alter. Over the years single motherhood by choice has become slowly more acceptable. Most of those instances were life’s little surprises. Now planned children by successful single women is fashionable. But poor single moms still struggle to feed their babies, pay for daycare and hold down crappy jobs. It all sucks. I would bet if you asked Kourtney Kardashian if she could choose, she would be married. I am sure if she thought she had found the right man, the right life partner, she would be married. Or maybe I am wrong. Maybe marriage is going out of style. Maybe it is just an old fashioned idea. By the looks of her sister’s big wedding, I would say the Kardashian girls are still holding onto the dream. And I hope they get it. In the end, all any of us wants is real love, health and happiness. But do we go for the dream without any boundaries. That is my question to you all.
