Okay this is what I have been worried about. I have been talking about it for months and now it has happened. Yesterday President Obama declared the h1n1 pandemic, a national emergecny. Under the Homeland Security Act, under a national emergency, the President, and the military can take action as needed to protect its citizens. And under this specific emergency vaccinations can be given, people can be quarentined. This is scary. The army is preparing for riots and pandemonia.

If Obama is going on high alert, so should we as moms. It is time for an emergency plan ladies. If this becomes a huge pandemic and we are stuck home with sick kids for weeks are you ready? Is your house stocked with what you need?

If the school goes on lockdown and starts forced vaccinations, have you spoken to your children about that? My kids have been instructed to RUN home and get out of there.

If we decide to keep our children home during this national emergency, can they really enter our homes and force quarantine of our families? Can they really arrest us if we don't vaccinate our children?

Under this federal emergency they can do whatever they want. And putting all the conspiracy theories aside, it just makes me feel uneasy. This is getting serious. We as moms, wives, and women have to be informed, educated, and we have to be willing to defend our families and our homes.

Think about it. In our lives, have we ever had our government declare a 'national emergency' of a contagious disease? Or anything else? What is going on ladies?

Maybe we're getting to the point where it's about to slow down (if they could really track that) and Obama's doing this as an effort to connect his name and actions to it getting better.....you know, I did this and now things are better, clearly I know what I'm doing.

I thought the national emergency was just a formal way to free up funds?

Yes that is true - Time magazine and other news channels and news media have all said that him declaring this will allow funding and allow his health secretary to bypass federal rules/requirements in order to get people treated and take action as needed - meaning fewer roadblocks in medicaid, medicare and other health privacy regulations.

As far as schools and such doing vaccines this was brought up at the same PTA meeting I talked about earlier where our school's policies were discussed and how they were handling sick kids and such and the principal assured us that no matter what people are reading even if it came to that she would notify the parents. She said herself and the district is doing it as well that they all feel there are too many children with allergies, conditions such as autism or religious beliefs that they don't want to be liable and notification will be sent out. They have been true to their word so far letting parents know via emails and phone messages each day 10% or more of the students have been out - and also what the % is for that day. They are keeping parents updated where the school is and the class that your child is in. They have been good staying on top of it.

As far as getting shut in - I have stocked up on supplies and if it came to that I think we'd be OK - we've been through worse. In FL one time we were shut in for 2 1/2 weeks with NO electricity after a big hurricane hit and knocked down so many lines that we were supppossed to stay in and then we got electricity back and like 3 days later another one hit and we were shut in with less supplies as the stores hadn't been restocked fullly yet for another week or so!!! Last summer we had those horrible floods here where the town was shut down for about a week too and the stores were closed since trucks couldn't get in and such - we had power but limited water. Having to stay in but still have power and water and cable will be easy! ;)

I just came from the store, sounds like I need to go back.
I am stocked on meds. Sounds like canned foods, and bottle water are a must.
Oh, and make sure you all have a hand held can opener. Don't get caught without that...LOL!

I learned that with our first hurricane experience! And a regular phone - we only had cordless ones which obvisoulsy didn't work with no power! Are they saying we could loose power with this??? CRAZY!!!

PHONE!!! That is a good idea.
I think a trip to the Dollar Store is in order.
Not sure about the power thing-I was more thinking along the lines of emergency prep. Darla had my brain working overtime...LOL!

that is how I view it. and I am mad I can't get the vaccine for my kids and myself. Supposedly it would be available. I feel very unprotected.
