I have been in a bit of a sad state watching 2009 slip away from me. What did I accomplish this year? Did I do everything I planned? Was I the best person I could be? One thing is for sure, my children are a year older and their personalities are setting in strong and soon they will be thinking for themselves so 2010 is a crucial year for me as a parent to influence who they are. I need to make them smart, strong, and healthy. But I also need to make them compassionate, kind, and savvy. I think I am doing a good job but I can do better with them, with me, and with my husband.

Deciding to change is easy but actually going the distance is the hard part. Instead of making a new year resolution I am going to challenge myself this year to make some changes. I want to be a more patient parent. I want to make my household more fun. I want to have more romance with my husband. I want to be a better daughter, friend, and citizen. I am up for the challenge.

I will listen more. I will laugh more. I need to be more organized with paperwork, photos, addresses, and bills. I am going to cancel all credit cards. I am going to buy only on sale and use coupons. I am going to cook more from scratch. I will grow a bigger garden. I am going to start reading the Bible. I will thank GOD every day that I am alive. I am going to tell my children every day how special they are. I am going to make sure I spend one on one time with them every day. I am going to make sure I compliment my husband and tell him how much I appreciate him. I am going to check on my parents more. I am going to make sure I send birthday cards to family and friends. I am going to write letters to people I have lost touch with. I am going to volunteer at the food pantry and church and try to help everyone I can. I am going to get more involved in helping the military wives. I am going to eat healthier, exercise more, and stay in my favorite Lucky Brand jeans size 27 for another year.

Life is a gift. It is a journey. It goes by pretty quick. I still say if you have the chance to be in a loving marriage with a man who adores you and wants to take care of you, if you have children looking up at you everyday with a big smile on their face, if you have a roof over your head... you got it going on and you have the best gift of all. God bless all of you happy housewives and your families in this upcoming year.

It is going to be a tough year for many of us as the results of this stimulus money drying up hits middle American families. I pray for each of you. And we all know it is us, the moms who are going to get our families through the hardest times. We are cutting coupons, stretching our household budgets, working on the school fundraisers, helping our children with their homework, helping our parents in their senior years, and trying to fit it all in. In the everyday madness we have to make sure we save time for ourselves, our bodies and our sanity. Remember it's okay to have your dreams, your hobbies, and your talent. Make sure you use it and give it to the rest of us.

Happy New Year!

Well said, Darla. 2010 will be a big year for us. This little baby will be born, Jackson will start Kindergarten, Parker will go to preschool.... There are so many changes that will happen, but I want to make changes too. I feel like while I'm pregnant and in this "holding pattern" with this stupid Hyperemesis Gravidarum, I'm not accomplishing the things I want to, but once this baby is born in July, things will change VERY quickly. Oh, and have I mentioned I'll turn 30 in 2010? Whew!

I agree with this completely. I'm looking forward to 2010. My husband and I will celebrate our twentieth anniversary this year, and we have never been closer. I count my blessings every day.

I love the part about making the home a more fun place and spending one on one time with those you love.

My hubby reminded me the other day when i was feeling a bit dissed by some of my so-so friends that i need to not worry about those people and to give the best part of me to the ones i love and that love me back. It inspired me and made me realize how much time i try to keep up with the "Jones'" and am always looking at things i don't have and wishing, wanting them. It has taken away a lot of joy and special moments with the people i do cherish and that are wonderful people.
Basically what i'm saying is that i'm also going to focus on the moment more and spending time with the people i cherish. I want to be the best person i can be and create a warm, safe feeling around me for my loved ones. I want to be the person they can relax around, expect a warm smile from.
