I just can't believe that in a suburban neighborhood in Ohio a woman was raped right on the side of the road, screaming for help, making eye contact with drivers as they drove by... and none of them stopped to help her. A 911 call has been being played on the news "I think a woman is being raped" by a very calm witness calling from her cell phone. I just don't get it. I would have beeped, driven up on the lawn, got out of my car, did whatever I could to stop this. Okay so people were scared? One person the 26 year old victim made contact with was a man. What kind of man is this who doesn't try to rescue and help a woman? The criminal here was a teenager. The victim, a young lady walking home from the library. I am sick over this. JUST SICK! What is happening to us? Are we so numb to violence, pain, and suffering that we could just drive by as someone is being attacked? The pig who did this is a teenager. How many years in jail will he get? And will these witnesses come forward to make sure this dirtbag gets the longest punishment possible.

I believe with every fiber of my being that our society is on the brink of catastrophic disaster. If we don't find a way to fix the 'soul' of America we will be ruined. Once a country turns its back on civility there is no turning back. In China baby girls are left in the woods to die. In North Korea babies are left dying on the side of the road. Women are stoned to death in public in some countries. In India bridal burnings are still accepted. And right here in America children are raped, abducted, molested, and believe it or not parents are not marching on capitol hill in outrage. Crime is growing. And I fear as more people are out of work, despair will set in. Every 6 minutes a woman is raped in America. Every 15 seconds a woman is battered. In North Africa, 6000 women are genitally mutilated each day.
800,000 children younger than 18 are missing each year, or an average of 2,000 children are reported missing each day.
200,000 children were were abducted by family members.
58,000 children were abducted by nonfamily members, and
115 children were the victims of “stereotypical” kidnapping. These crimes involve someone the child does not know, or knows only slightly, who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently. More than one in 100 adults in the United States is in jail or prison, an all-time high! With more than 2.3 million people behind bars, the United States leads the world in both the number and percentage of residents it incarcerates, leaving far-more-populous China a distant second, according to a study by the nonpartisan Pew Center on the States. And tonight 25% of Americans will go to sleep hungry.

And we can all believe all we want that we live in the greatest nation, and we do, but if we don't start now to demand better, we will be living in a third world nation with no dignaty, no jobs, no respect, no civility, and no hope.

What are we going to do about this ladies?

That is just sick, and sad. Why have we become morally bankrupt? No offense, but that sounds like sterotypical New York City. (not middle America) I just can't wrap my brain around this. Sigh, I avoid most news media for this reason. It is depressing.
What can we do? (that is a serious question)

This is so sad. I am amazed at all the teen violence lately. It seems that everytime I watch the news another teen is being charged for something. This is just crazy.

oh this makes me sick to my stomach. I would have tackled that man like an nfl lineman,.. I just dont get it.

I think somethings we could do are, take a self defense class so we know and feel more confident if we are needed to help. Train our children on how to defend themselves and what to do.

But, sad to say I dont know what else we can really do besides that...

I spoke with someone who said their child told them what kind of things are really happening in the highschool their children attended (they now homeschool) and it was horrible!!!! (language, sex, just aweful). The kids in the school keep it all secret and act like its normal. ... Could it be as a society we are desensitized? We have parents who allow their 5 year olds to watch violating and inappropriate appropriate movies (I have seen them in theaters), and not to mention video games. What can we do... ???

makes me sad. What is it going to be like in 20 years????

It is so very sad. I know for me I would have done what you said Darla and drove up beeping my horn, calling for police, anything.

In fact I have done it before. I witnessed a women getting the crap beaten out of her and the guy opened the door and she ran out of the car into traffic. I followed her and offered her a ride to get help but she wouldn't take it and kept running. well the guy was following her so I stayed and watched until the guy realized I was witnessing him and he then drove off. It was all so sad and scary. No one else stepped in to help. For me it was just instinct to help her.

I don't know but it does scare me how soceity is so numb to everyone.
