Today at a winter fair that we went to many people decided to bring their dogs. How cute! Now I am a dog person. We have three dogs. Two furry Bearded Collies and one annoying little Westie. They are three dysfunctional dogs so I do the world a favor and leave them home. My children begged me to take Bailey the Westie but I refused. She would be snarling and barking at everyone. She is a little devil dog. Okay then what about Paddy. Our sweet Beardie. Okay I gave in. I don't like bringing Paddy anyplace because she is very shy and does not like to socialize. She is a cat at heart. So off we go and my children are thrilled to walk their dog through the crowd. All of the sudden some huge black lab jumps on Paddy and starts trying to hump her. I am screaming. And Connor is pulling Paddy, and there is no owner near. So I push the dog off and am pulling him back. He keeps going after my dog (who is spayed) and it is a complete scene. My husband is off getting hot chocolate. The owner comes walking over, a woman, and just calls her dog, "Jake' come on boy. I say, you need to leash that dog because he was jumping all over my dog. She looked at me and responded that it was a dog park and he is 'acting doggish.' No sorry from this lady. No, asking if my dog was okay. She just walked away.
Later on inside the tent area they have hot chocolate, popcorn bags, some little snacks and goodies. They were $1 each. My daughter buys a popcorn box. And some little kid, we don't know, walks up to her, and says can I have some of your popcorn. Hannah of course says yes. The kid puts her hands in the box and I am just in shock. Her mother was right there and saw the whole thing. This girls nose was running and crusty snot was stuck all over it. I then just said, here take the box, and the girl took it and walked away. The mother stood there talking to her friend. No thank you. No, how nice.
I am wondering if I am just too uptight or is everyone else lacking in manners. Is it cute and appropriate to ask someone to share their popcorn when you don't know them? Is it okay to let your dog jump on other dogs if it is a park? Is this play? Or is it rude?
My husband thinks I am uptight and that all of this is cute. Maybe I am hormonal. But lately everyone annoys me.

I'm sorry but I'm with you - both cases are rude, rude, rude and I would have not been quite as pleasant as you were to the owner of the dog in particular. I probably would have done the same thing in the case of the popcorn as well and just handed it over, I'm sorry but you have no idea what that kid had germ wise, and although I'm normally fine with my kids being around sick kids I wouldn't want them sharing a drink or sharing food like that especially if I don't know the child.
I think you handled both scenarios really graciously.

Darla, I'm sorry but I am laughing because you just make everything sound so funny!! That being said, I would've reacted the SAME way you did. I am a total germaphobe. And don't even get me started on unleashed dogs.
It was just in our local paper about two women getting in an actual fight (scuffle!) over their two unleashed dogs.
Grrrr. Two of my pet peeves- unleashed dogs and germy kids on the loose.

It does seem that people now days are lacking any manners. My hubby is always telling me to chill out about stuff but I get pissed when people act like ignorant fools at my expense!
That is just plain gross about the snotty nose girl asking for popcorn. I've been to a few dog parks but pretty much all are acting nice and not humping, but this is a park for tiny dogs. I have never heard the term "acting doggish" that's just strange.

honestly, Darla, I woulda reacted exactly the same as you did. You're not crazy, these people are incredibly rude!
Seriously. I probably would have made an even bigger scene than you did and the other mothers would be on some other forum talking about this crazy redhead that screamed and yelled at them for infecting her family. LOL!

Darla, you know I live in the sticks. We leash our dogs when we go to town. Doesn't that just seem like a no brainer to protect your pet from running after someone or something? Also, in these sue-happy days, I just wouldn't *not* leash my dog in public. I have very sweet, obedient dogs but that doesn't matter. So yes, I think the humping dog owner was rude.
I love kids...absolutely adore children! I would never in a million years let my snot-nosed or grubby offspring ask to stick their hands in a stranger's popcorn. Are these people totally daft? Your child could become sick or maybe the other child has some illness that you might not see right away. Other than that, it's just gross that this mother's kid is snotty and she was too daft to wipe her little nose and keep her child from what happened. I don't think it's cute so again, yes, I feel that it was rude.
We are in a country where manners have fallen to the wayside in so many areas. I've been North, South, East and West and you know where I believe the most manners are found and that's the South and especially, the rural areas of the South. Bad manners and lack of common sense is ruining the people of this nation. It sickens me. Sorry for the diatribe. ;)

You know, the kid actually didn't bother me. She may have simply wanted some popcorn. She was about 7 years old. I was annoyed that her mother stood there and didn't try to pull her away, or say "oh my, sweetine we don't do that" or "I am sorry, let me buy your daughter a new popcorn."

lol Valerie! Amen to that!
Times have changed and not for the better, in many ways. Today, kids are rude and their parents are their ill-mannered equals who've taught them pretty much nothing but rubbish. Thank goodness the ladies of HHC have more sense than God gave a goose!
