I have been sick all afternoon over this girl hanging herself after she was bullied by her school mates. This girl came here from Ireland only to be stalked, harassed, taunted... read this, I am really having a hard time with this

do you think her mother knew about it?! I would NEVER let my kids go back to a school where they were treated that way!

This is really too bad. Why do people feel the need to put others down in order to build themselves up? Has the teenage generation gotten so much worse since we were teenagers, or is it just that we hear more about it now? And if it has gotten worse, what can we as mothers do about it? Sure, legislation is there but laws go only so far. Look at speeding and the laws we have for that and how many people do it anyway.
Darla and other moms out there, What can we personally do to put an end to it in our own communities? I'm not talking vigilanties, I'm talking as a mom, as a neighbour, as members of our own community, what actions can we personally take? I am at a loss.

I was a bully in school.. I feel bad now.. It was never to this kind of degree and it was never just me.. you know how those cliques are.. I think it has gotten worse because there are SO many more ways to torment people now! I will say that I have honestly tried to find everyone I was mean to and apologize!

I was horrifically bullied at school. It ruined my life, changed how I view people and killed my chance at the career I desperately wanted.
They used to push me over in the hallways, sit on me and bang my head against the floor. I developed grand mal epilepsy probably as a direct result of the ongoing trauma to my head and was then unable to join the Navy as I wanted. And the emotional and psychological bullying was FAR worse. I lived every school day in fear and not a single ADULT would do a thing about it. I remember begging my Mum to let me stay at home and be educated but she just wouldn't do it. Apparently being bullied is character building. Yeah. It built my character into a reclusive, anorexic who turned to men and meaningless sex at the age of 15. Who can't trust people for toffee and suffers from serious bouts of depression and often has suicidal thoughts.
The bullying problem was so bad at my school that a boy was found hanging at his home, two teachers had nervous breakdowns and numerous students turned to teen pregnancy/drugs/alcohol just to "escape"... The school itself always denied there was a problem and was supposedly one of the best in the area. Makes me want to throw up just thinking about it.
Sadly I don't think the world will ever be free of stories like this one... Bullies will always be around.

Sarah-Jean, I am so sorry. How horrible. I can't believe you went through that. You should start writing about it.
There is another death. A girl on Long Island commits suicide after being bullied on the internet. Look how beautiful she is.

You know my oldest son and his best friend get picked on for being "small" in 6th grade. My son is pretty average size . This one kid who picks on them came up to them and said "oh look at the little tiny 6th graders" My son's best friend need him in the balls and the kid fell down. Paul says "who's small now".... I laughed so hard, because so many kids are so scared to stick up for themselves.
Now paul got a saturday detention, but I have to be honest if it was my son, I would not punish him.....

I just saw in Houston a 2nd grader was being bullied by a older kid.. the older kid pulled his pants down ( mortifying! ) OFTEN! He went to the principal.. the principal made a 2nd grader sign a non suicide agreement.. really a 2nd grader has any idea what that it?! And NOTHING happened to the older boy.. why wasn't he charged with sexual assault.. in many cities he would have been.. instead nothing.. and the 2nd grader hung himself AFTER he tried to jump off the 2nd story of the school building.. school did NOTHING!!
