On this July 4th, I am feeling so fortunate to be alive, and to be American. The patriotic songs played tonight at the firework show brought tears to my eyes. Our military and their families who sacrifice so much now and who have sacrificed so much along our journey, humbles me and breaks my heart. My heart hurts because I personally would love to thank every person and hold out my hand and do whatever I can to help. How can I help? What is my role as an American? To be a good citizen every day. To fight for my country in my way. To stand up for what I believe in. To make sure my children and yours have a future. To keep the American dream alive. I can help do this every day because I can call, write, protest, and shout. I can help my neighbors. I can help the elderly. I can help the poor. I can help my family. I can be the best that I can be. For myself, and my country. If each one of us expects more, works as hard as we can, helps to lift others up, and join together, we can accomlish anything. Look what we have done since the first July 4th, 234 years ago. Our founding fathers would be sad to see how part of us is crumbling. We have to fix it. And we can start in our homes. We are the moms, the wives, and we have the heart, the time, and the spending power to create change. We are a force to be reckoned with. Hold on to your ideals. Look to the future. We can save America. God Bless us all! And God help our families along the Gulf Coast.
